Does Mirena Usage Cause Itchy Inflamed Sore Vulval Skin? Skin Around Vagina Breaks or Cracks Open to Bleed? What causes the skin around vagina to bleed?

After my son Aiden was born, I wanted to go for birth control...I preferred an Intra Uterine device because there's no need to remember taking pills everyday, remember to have seasonal shots etc..and also because of their high success rate in preventing pregnancy.

After hearing the Gynecologist all praising about Mirena IUC, I decided to go or it...for the first few months ...I had incessant spotting..but it stopped within 3 to 4 months. By the time I stopped breastfeeding Aiden..I expected my menstural cycles to return...but no signs. After reading the Mirena catalogue I understood it was common that menstural cycles stopped altogether with Mirena Usage.

That's where my problem started.....I never had any kind of vaginal infection before...but I had terrible bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections kept recurring month after month, with the intense itchy and burning sensation my vulval region was always sore and red.

Many a times I had the vulval region inflammed and the skin around Labia and Vagina eventually break and crack open to bleed. The pain would be intense....especially right after sex i would be embarrassed with the fishy foul smelling vaginal odor and discharge.

With Mirena use I myself found me not interested in sex....with these bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection problems compounding....I totally forgot about sex. But thankfully my partner is very understanding.

I found from many of my friends who use Mirena that bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections are not uncommon with the IUC.

How Mirena causes Bacterial Vaginosis?

Well the normal pH of the vaginal environment is anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5. But there are triggers like IUCs, sex etc...cause the vaginal pH to elevate which increases the bad bacteria growth.

Mirena IUCs can alter hormone levels, dry out the body, or change the pH of the body's most sensitive tissues which causes vaginal pH to elevate and in turn cause bacterial vaginosis.

Bleeding and inflamed sore vulval skin

When conditions such as BV cause the vagina to become inflamed, the skin around the opening and inside the vagina will become tender and any vigorous rubbing will break the skin causing itchy inflamed sore vulval skin and skin around vagina breaks or cracks open to bleed due to your Bacterial Vaginosis. The walls of the vagina are particularly vulnerable and this would explain why many women notice the bleeding after sexual intercourse.

When women suffer from more unusual symptoms, such as itchy sore patches around the vaginal opening and vulva, then scratching can easily tear or break the skin so it is important for you to check to see exactly where the blood is coming from. If the discharge is brownish or blood colored rather than spotted with bright red then you should get it checked out. It may be an indication that you have a different vaginal infection.

If you have inflamed sore vulval skin and skin around vagina breaks or cracks open to bleed due to Bacterial Vaginosis you should start a natural approach rather but also use common sense and seek medical attention to rule out any other possibilities.

Because, 77% of all women treating Bacterial Vaginosis with Pharmaceutical Antibiotics suffer from reoccurrence within months. Most conventional treatments such as Antibiotics and Anti-fungals upset the natural balance of bacteria in vagina. In your vagina live both good and bad bacteria. Antibiotic literally translated means "against life" - it kills bacteria indiscriminately and you need many types of bacteria to have normal healthy balance. Taking the most commonly prescribed treatments for Bacteria Vaginosis will make the situation much, much worse.  Because the medications also kill the good bacteria, the body will have no defense when the BV returns.

This is when it is vital to know what is going on inside your body so that you can assess the significance of any abnormal bleeding. If the skin is broken, it is important to keep it clean and free from infection without irritating it further. Make sure the treatment you are using is not irritating the skin or causing a reaction and get help if you are worried.

And I used a natural approach in keeping the bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections away instead of taking flagyl or flucanozole..I used the remedy from http://bvcures.cz.cc 3 Days to Permanent Bacterial Vaginosis Relief by Kristina J Tomlin to get rid of bleeding & inflamed sore vulval skin associated with Mirena Usage

  1. Dry, sore, sometimes itchy vulva?
I’ve looked at symptoms for STDs, but none of them seem to fit.

    Symptoms I DO have include:
    Dryness
    Occasional itchiness
Soreness, not just in the vaginal area, but all over my vulva.

Symptoms I do NOT have include:
    Any form of discharge
    Lumps, bumps, warts, or sores
    Painful urination

I just had sex yesterday afternoon, and it was a bit rough, so it COULD just be that, but I’m a bit worried. Rough sex wouldn’t cause the dryness or itchiness would it?

I was tested for STDs last Monday and have yet to hear from the doctor. I am calling Monday, since they didn’t call by Friday. I didn’t have these symptoms when I went to get checked, I just get checked every so often.

    Any ideas?

Another symptom I DO have that I forgot to mention is:

Light bleeding. The blood is bright red, which I’ve had before after rough sex.

BUT! I am on Depo-Provera, the birth control shot, and I have been spotting for a few weeks now. Mentioned it to doctor, he did a pregnancy test so it’s not that.

But the spotting blood was dark brown, not this bright red. And I can’t tell if it’s coming from my vagina or my urethra.

Side note: The reason I was tested Monday, was because at that point, I had had sex with 5 guys in the past month, all unprotected. Sure, call me a slut, that’s not the issue. The issue is, I might have an STD here.

But now the number is 6, and my symptoms showed up after guy #6, and have been dating since Wednesday night.
Sadly, no, I was not being safe. I was not using condoms.

I went to the ER yesterday to figure out what was going on… the itching and pain was unbearable.

The doctor said I had a severe urinary tract infection [though odd, because there is no pain when I urinate], a yeast infection, and vaginitis.

I am at a loss as to what could’ve caused it, besides one [sort of] embarrassing tidbit about sex I had on Friday, which is the last time. I was actually with a partner I had just started dating. Granted, I screwed that up, but that’s another story. Anyway, he was going at it doggie style, and he would take his penis and rub it up and down, down there… I’m guessing that might’ve spread some bacteria around? That’s my only clue as to why I have these infections.

Doctor gave me a few medicines…

Ciprofloxacin, fluconazole, and some vaginal gel. Had two pills to take of the second, 7 days of the first. I noticed almost immediate relief from the vaginal gel, THANK the LORD!

    • I WILL NOT judge you for having sex with multiple partners. But-I hope that you are using condoms?? The shot only protects against pregnancy. You don’t need to be worried about getting pregnant if you catch HIV, cause then you’ll be dead before the child gets in 1st grade. If you are using condoms-the dry itchy vulva can be from the type you are using. there are some condoms that irritate the tissues. Try some over the counter moisture replacement for women. Sometimes hormonal imbalances can also cause the dryness and itchiness. I hope this helps a little and I didn’t offend you. Just have been there before, and I was lucky :)

    • Hello,
Pain and soreness after intercourse for the first time is normal and is due to tearing of hymen and friction rub of the vulva with the penis.Apply warm compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killer like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac.

Hope it helps. Take care and regards.

  2. symptoms or causes of a red itchy irritated vulva?
so, i shave my vagina and i havent’ kept up with it, so it’s a bit stubbly lately. on thursday, ( i already had some stubble) my friend and i engaged in dry humping with our clothes on, then dry humping w them off, but never actually had “sex.” he also went down on me, fingered me, and rubbed my clit for so long that it got sore. now my left side of my vulva is bright red and extremely itchy. ii still havent shaved the stubble away… do you think its just irritated and red from overstimulation and stubble or could it be something else??

    • this is most likely due to the over stimulation

also hands are not very clean and so it may just be a simple bacterial infection that will clear up in time. i would advise you to wash down there twice daily and things should clear up in a few days

  3. my female dog has sores around her vulva that are red and inflamed with a black crusty substance. Treatment?
What causes this and how can it be treated?

  4. please help me with my sore, dry, red and swollen vulva!?
three days ago i started to get pain at the entrance to my vagina and found that there wasn’t as much natural lubrication. my entire vulva is now sore and i have literally been sitting on ice packs for hours on and off today. the inner lips are swollen and red, and it is painful to the touch. it does not burn to urinate or anything like that so i don’t know what it could be.
i’m not sure if it is a yeast infection as i have never had one.

ten days ago i lost my virginity to a guy whom i didn’t know. we did not use a condom because it was so in the moment. we didn’t have sex for long because it was painful and he didn’t even ***.
i’m on birth control so pregnancy is not really a concern at all. i asked him if he had something (an std) and he freaked out and demanded that he didn’t. 2 days after the sex, i got enlarged lymph nodes on my neck everywhere, had a slight fever in the evening, chills and i vomited once in the middle of the night. i went to the dr and he thought i had strep throat or mono and gave me amoxicillin for the infection.
i looked up the side effects and the internet claims that amoxicillin can cause some vaginal infections.
i’m unable to get an appt with my doctor for another week. this is my last resort.
    thank you for the help.

    • this happened to me too. natural lubrication doesnt always come in time when youre in the moment. if possible, carry a small bottle of lube with you in your purse so if youre in that moment again, you can swipe yourself quickly.

a lack of lubrication during intercourse can cause you to swell up. look at it this way: something “foreign” is entering yourvula so it needs to slide in and out with ease so it wont be injuring your lips during entry. during/after intercourse, your lips may be swollen and even appear longer than before. they do get stretched out so dont worry.

antibiotics CAN cause yeast infections. symptoms are fishy odor, discharge, itchiness and painful urination.

you probably just had some bad luck so youre dealing with an angry vulva and some sort of infection, NOT an std. dont worry. the anti biotic should help.
